Center for Courageous Kids

I found out that the Center for Courageous Kids was sponsoring a weekend with the Kentucky School for the Blind.  We applied and were accepted!  So exciting!  We drove down to the Southern border of Kentucky to CCK for a wonderful weekend.  First off about CCK.  They are a camp for people with disabilities, so that everyone can have a camp experience.  Kids with cancer, kids with brittle bones, wounded warriors and their families, everyone gets a chance to come to camp like “normal” people and have fun.  So awesome!  KSB was sponsoring it this weekend, so this weekend it was geared toward kids with visual impairments and their families. Each family is assigned a helper or two to help out which is awesome!  There is a rule that there must be an adult with anyone under 18 at all times.  So if the babies were sleepy and needed to go lay down, our sweet helpers could stay with the big ones and they could still have fun.  They would do whatever was needed so we could have a good time.  They were fantastic!  Our two helpers, Miss Amy and Miss Shanna, were incredible!  One was an NP and the other a 4th year medical school student.  We were in good hands!

There is a mandatory meeting first thing where they go over all the rules.  Alex immediately got down and started rubbing his head on this new surface to check it out and Miss Amy was right down there with him talking to him about how it felt.  I knew then we were going to do be in great hands!

Getting settled into our beds – we had a room with 8 beds and a bathroom with 2 shower stalls and 4 toilets.  Plenty big for our family!

When Bella would get bored, Miss Amy would take her outside and play with her. Such an awesome woman – really admire her!

The theme for the weekend was “All That Jazz.”  The music teachers from KSB had music rotations with the kids.  They were fantastic!  My big girls loved the keyboard guy, Mr. Honey, the best.  My little girls loved percussion the best.

                                   Yeah for CCK and KSB!
