Our Week

IMG_20100830_060400 (2)One word: Seminary.

It starts early and it’s daily.  I know we did it, but I am feeling for Becca.  I so hope she will have a fantastic experience and learn tons about the Gospel.  I hope she makes good friends and feels the Spirit.

(sorry about the picture – 6AM on a cell phone – it’s as good as it gets)

Joy had her first day of school on Wednesday!  It went really well – so grateful!

Becca got her dress from Orchestra.  She will wear this for their performances.  I think she looks really cute in it.

This picture is special to me – all eight of us around the table!!  Bella is back to her former strength before she got the flu, so she is able to spend more time with us – Wahoo!

IMG_7230Our power went out (again!) for six hours on Thursday.  I thought this was such a fun picture – the little girls all gathered around the nurses’ laptop to watch a movie – that worked till her battery died!  :)  Again I am grateful for our generator.  It kept Bella alive, but it sure was a warm night for the rest of us.

Friday – I just grabbed my camera to see what everyone was doing.

Saturday Kathie and Rob invited us over for swimming, dinner, and games.  We had a lot of fun.  We had to leave to make it make home for shift change, so we couldn’t stay for all the games, everyone was disappointed, but we had fun.  I forgot my camera at home, so I will post those pictures when Kathie sends them to me.  Thank goodness she has a camera!  :)

Sunday Kris dropped by (and Jacob) to say “hi bye.”  They fly out to Idaho on Monday morning.  Have a great semester y’all!  We’ll miss you!

Interesting comment from a member of our ward this week.  “From the outside everything seems to be going well.”  She was talking about our family.  I thought it was interesting and thought provoking.  I was reminded of an experience I had a few years ago.  One of my young women was crying  during class and split after our lesson.  When I asked her mom about it, she said, “Oh, she hasn’t learned to put on her church face yet.”  Hmmmm…..interesting that we put on church faces and try to have everything seem perfect.  I wonder who we are trying to impress.

Anyway….if you made it to the bottom of this post….then congratulations – you get to find out the newest Turpin endeavor.  Drum roll please……The Turpins are going to adopt again.  Yeah for us.  We want a boy.  A male child.  A son.  We have contacted our social worker to figure out the logistics, for example I can’t get a letter from Bella’s doc saying that she is in good health.  I just can’t.  She told us what we have to do.  On Sunday our whole family fasted about it.  Hey, I think that babies come with strings and sometimes a few little complications, if I can get everyone excited and motivated about it, we’ll have fewer bumps down the road.  We are thinking domestic (because of Bella), probably a toddler and healthy (also because of Bella), but we are open to whoever the Lord sends.  So…if you hear about any cute little boys that you just know need to be in our family, please let us know!  The finding part is one of the hardest parts of adoption!

For your laughing pleasure, when we were discussing this new baby, Sammi announced, “You can’t have a baby, you and Daddy are fixed!”  :)  Well, I guess that leaves adoption :)
