I have had a bit going on lately - camp, trying to get Becca into Doerre, dossier preparations, huge combined YM/YW and I'm the only Presidency member in town.
In order to enroll a child in public school, there is a list a mile long that you have to give to the registrar. One item is a copy of the child's social security card. I couldn't find it. Anywhere. I have been looking for months. I have the number, just not the card. So I called the registrar back before school ended and asked if the number was enough. NO, she informed me and since I had until August, I had time to get a new one. OK, thank you very much.
So I have tried to get a new one. Interesting thing about SS cards - they aren't easy to get ahold of. Birth Certificates are not identification enough for a SS card. You must have a school ID or passport (or certified doctor's records for very young children). Sigh. I need a school ID to get a SS card so that I can get a SS card to get my daughter into school to get the school ID. Sigh. That piece of lovely news came in the mail today. Didn't even phase me. For those of you that don't know, Jason and I have been running around to police departments and county courthouses, trying to assemble a group of documents called a dossier. It represents us to the Ukrainian government so they will feel comfortable handing us a little boy. So we have gained an appreciation for bureaucracy. Consequently, it came as no surprise that I didn't have absolutely the right documents.
I decided to try another approach. Those missing SS cards had to be somewhere in this house!
I cleaned out both of my desks. I cleaned out my bed side table. I went through all my files. Nothing. So back to my knees, because believe me this isn't the first time I have prayed about this! I decided to read my scriptures to calm my mind. There was only one place I hadn't checked and a teeny voice told me this during my prayer. There is a table that holds my printer. It is also unassessible. There is a couch in front of it. I know we keep our mortgage papers in there. But I moved the couch and searched through the dust, the computer files, disks, my old passport (that I just filled out a form telling the government I had lost - it's from 1981), old mortgage papers, and my old planner which contained, you guessed it, my daughters' social security cards.
With everything else going on in my life and in the world, I am so thankful that Heavenly Father told me where to look for the missing SS cards. I am so grateful for these little signs that show me that He cares about my life and my concerns. I am so grateful!
This is our digital scrapbook for the year. Hey - it's faster than using scissors and pretty papers - and it actually gets done.

Turpin Family Party
Gary had a meeting here in Houston, so we scheduled Joy's blessing to take place while he was here. Sandi and Gary extended the trip a little and stayed with us for 4 days and then with Danielle for a few days. We had a really nice visit. Grandma and the girls were able to have fun and do their nails. Gary was able to attend his meeting. And Joy was blessed!
While they were here, Nancy and Jack Hecker, our wonderful neighbors, invited all the Turpins over for swimming and a BBQ. We had a wonderful time! Thanks Heckers!
